Homeopathy

If you are new to homeopathy - maybe still deciding if it is for you - I hope this section will help.

Homeopathy is an individualised approach to health where homeopathic medicines (remedies) are chosen according to a person's specific symptoms, their overall level of health and their characteristics as an individual. The aim is to find the remedy which will support the body's own capacity to heal.

As a holistic system of medicine, homeopathy takes into account all aspects of someone's health and wellbeing.  It can address physical, mental and/or emotional symptoms.

Homeopathy can support people during acute or chronic illness, after surgery or during convalescence. Remedies can be used alongside medicines prescribed by a doctor and do not interfere with their action.

Homeopathy is also suitable at times of physical and emotional change, including adolescence and menopause. Remedies are non toxic, and homeopathy is considered a safe form of medicine for anyone, including babies, children, the elderly, pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers.

Homeopathic remedies are made from natural substances, often plant or mineral sources. They are not tested on animals.

The low-impact manufacturing process of remedies makes homeopathy one of the most environmentally sustainable forms of medicine.

About Lucy

About Lucy

I first discovered homeopathy in 2004. I decided to train to obtain my Licentiate after 15 years of supporting family with homeopathic remedies, and seeing how it can help people of all ages with all sorts of physical problems or mental/emotional challenges.

I trained at the River School of Homeopathy, an innovative college integrating traditional and contemporary methods of homeopathic prescribing. The Alliance of Registered Homeopaths is my professional governing body.

My background is in counselling, and later in research, and I integrate my experience of both with my homeopathy practice where possible.

I practice from three locations in Wiltshire, Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire, and work online for clients who live further afield, details below. All my remedies are sourced from one of the UK's main homeopathic pharmacies, Helios Homeopathy.

More about homeopathy

Homeopathy is based on the principle that a substance that causes symptoms in a healthy person can help someone suffering similar symptoms, sometimes known as 'like cures like'.

Remedies are made from a tiny amount of a substance, which is triturated (ground), diluted and succussed many times to produce different dilutions, known as potencies. Substances may be toxic in their original form, but the homeopathic remedy is not.

Homeopathy tends to use Latin, botanical or chemical names - for instance, Bellis Perennis, made from the common daisy - and the dilution by a number e.g. Bellis Perennis 200c.

Understanding of the use of homeopathic remedies to alleviate symptoms has developed over years of volunteers testing homeopathically prepared substances, and the accumulation of clinical case knowledge from the 1800s to the present day.

At a first appointment, a homeopath will build a detailed picture of your overall health and your symptoms exactly as you experience them, in order to find the remedy that is most closely matched.  This involves finding out details that make you who you are, such as likes, dislikes, sleep, stressors, ambitions.

Homeopathic treatment for long standing complaints is often a gradual process. For any issue, there is usually one follow-up about 4-6 weeks after the first prescription.

Some people who use homeopathy find it sets them on a beneficial new way to consider their health and wellbeing: see this animation from Find a Homeopath.
